Sony Denies Reports It Plans To Buy Rockstar Parent Company

Earlier this week we saw reports that Sony was in “advanced talks” of acquiring Rockstar parent company Take Two Interactive.  While those reports did seem to have some traction to them based on a report from MarketWatch, Sony came out yesterday denying the validity of the reports.

Many sources have come out denying the reports stating that the unconfirmed reports were simply speculation and had no basis to consider them as truth.  Recently, Bloomberg Tech reporter, Yuji Nakamura tweeted that Sony confirmed to him there is “no truth” to the reports of a Take-Two buyout.

Obviously, any confirmation of such a move would be one of the biggest moves to date in the gaming industry.  One of the biggest points of this buyout would have been that giant games such as Red Dead RedemptionGrand Theft Auto, and Civilization would all have been presumably been released as Playstation exclusives.

While these rumors did stir up an expected degree of skepticism, even in the sources that initially reported on them, such a move is not totally out of the question.  Take Two makes an insane amount of money on their games.  And being that Sony is always looking for ways to “one-up” their competitors, such an idea was easily spread throughout the community.

Either way, now we have confirmation on the rumors circling around.  What do you guys think?  Do you think a move similar to this one could surface some time in the future?  Will Sony go after another behemoth studio?  Let us know in the comments!
