A day before Season 6 of Apex Legends launches, Respawn Entertainment finally revealed the new upcoming hero Rampart. The new Legend, who’s real name is Ramya Parekh, is a defensive characters with some straight up badass abilities. Here’s everything we know about Rampart.
Apex Legends introduces Rampart
Backstory
Rampart is the newest addition to the Apex Legends Legend roster. Respawn describes her as a ‘quick-witted modder’. She’s a blue-collar, private business owner that gained fame for her expertise in modding gear. She’s all about turning scrap metal into useful objects. Or “turn crap into gold”, to use her own words.
Abilities
And that will carry over onto the battlefield. Like Wattson, Rampart is all about deploying stuff to gain an advantage in a firefight. The new Legend (previously leaked to be a burly, cigar smoking dude) can deploy an Amped Cover to shield herself and her teammates from incoming fire. Incoming shots are blocked, while the barrier amplifies outgoing fire!
But the real show stealer is her huge minigun, affectionately nicknamed ‘Sheila’. Sheila is a big-ass deployable machine gun with a high rate of fire but long reload time. The Ultimate can be used by either Rampart, or any of her teammates. Or enemies, if they manage to commandeer the machinegun, so keep it safe! It’s unclear if Rampart can deconstruct her Ultimate like Loba can, as to prevent enemies from benefiting from it.
Here’s a rundown of all the new abilities for Rampart:
- Tactical Ability: Amped Cover — Build a crouch-cover wall, which deploys a full-cover amped wall that blocks incoming shots and amps outgoing shots
- Passive Ability: Modded Loader — Increased magazine capacity and faster reloads/recharge when using LMGs and the minigun
- Ultimate Ability: Emplacement Minigun “Sheila” — Place a mounted machine gun that anyone can use. High ammo capacity, long reload time
Rampart’s impact on the meta
As always, fans of Apex Legends are wondering just how powerful the new Legend will be. Of course, with the addition of any new character, people have to adjust to the meta and new abilities that spice up the gameplay. So Rampart is definitely going to be strong in the first few weeks of Season 6.
When you zoom out a little, it’s clear that Respawn Entertainment is aiming for slightly slower overal gameplay with Rampart. She’s obviously a defensive hero that likes to dig in. We’re excited (and anxious) to see combo’s with, for example, Wattson and Caustic. Basically, if a team of three defensive Legends hole up in a building dead center of the final circle, it’s probably a clear ‘gg’ for anyone that tries to get in there.
Season 6 release date
Rampart, along with Apex Legends Season 6, will launch on August 17 at 22:00 PDT, or August 18 at 1:00 EDT / 7:00 CEST.
