Apex Legends set it’s all time concurrent player record on Steam. Respawn Entertainment introduced their innovative battle royale on Steam back in November of 2020 and it’s steadily gaining in popularity since. Of course, there’s no way of telling if these are long time players switching platforms, or new players just discovering the game for the first time. But one this is certain; Apex Legends is booming on Steam right now!
Apex Legends player record on Steam
At the tail-end of February, Apex Legends achieved a new concurrent player record of 196,799 gamers through Steam (via SteamCharts). That’s nowhere near close to the absurd amount of players Valheim managed to reach. But then again, Apex is two years old already.
The first three months after EA’s decision to move their catalogue to Steam, Apex Legends only saw an average of max 75,000 players. Throughout Februari, that number went up drastically to well over 120k. As of writing, it’s the fifth most played game on Steam, topping Grand Theft Auto V, Rainbow Six Siege, and Rust. PUBG still manages to draw well over twice as many concurrent players.
It’s unclear exactly why there’s such an uptick in Apex’ Steam activity. The game just launched it’s eighth season, along with a new legend named Fuse. That might have made a bunch of players return to the game. Additionally, fans of the BR may slowly lean in favor of Steam as opposed to it’s alternative, EA Origin.
Whatever the reason, Apex Legends set a new Steam concurrent player record in Februari. Let’s see if it’s just a fad, or if the game could eventually beat PUBG. It still has a couple of years on the OG battle royale, so who knows!
