Activision: Call of Duty Now Takes Up The ENTIRE PS4/Xbox One Storage

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Warzone, and Modern Warfare (2019) could fill up an entire PS4 or Xbox One’s storage, Activision warns. It is no secret that the most recent iterations in the popular shooter franchise require a lot of hard disk space. But with the introduction of season 2, you might need a dedicated Call of Duty console. And it gets worse when you try to actually download the update.

Black Ops Cold War and Warzone storage wars

Activision warns fans of the uniquely annoying fact that the recent Call of Duty’s require 500GB of storage. In other words, a standard PlayStation 4 or Xbox One would be just enough to store Black Ops Cold War, Warzone and thus automatically Modern Warfare.

Luckily players have some control over the storing of Call of Duty, though it’s not ideal if you jump from one game to another. As the American company admits, the following workaround only works if you play Warzone but not Black Ops Cold War or vice versa. You can save some console storage space by following the steps below:

  • For Black Ops Cold War – At the main menu, press the right analogue stick (R3) and go to File Management
  • For Modern Warfare/Warzone – At the main menu, press Options, go to the General tab and scroll down to Game Installs
  • Here, you can delete specific parts of the respective games. For example, you can uninstall the Singleplayer, Multiplayer, or Battle Royale mode.

PC gamers can also save storage space, so make sure to check out our guide of how to do so here.

It gets worse

As if an entire console filled with Call of Duty’s wasn’t bad enough, updating to newer versions is also needlessly annoying. As Eurogamer details, you need well over 100GB of free storage to download and install a 17GB patch! So even if you have enough space on your console to theoretically download and play all recent CoD’s, you might still not be able to actually update to the newest versions.

Season 2 for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is live now, and includes a bunch of new stuff. Players can choose from a variety of new weapons, Operators, new maps, and an amazing new zombie mode called Outbreak. Lastly, Black Ops Cold War’s Multiplayer and said zombie mode are free to play for a week (6 days as of writing).
