Don’t Hold Your Breath For GTA 6, Ex-Rockstar Employee Suggests

While the next Grand Theft Auto hasn’t even officially been announced, many fans may have been expecting GTA 6 somewhere in the next two years. Even that sounds a little bit optimistic, a former Rockstar employee suggests.

GTA 6 won’t come out for a while

Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a long way from release, according to gaming industry veteran Darion Lowenstein. During an investment forecasting call with equity research firm Jefferies, investors referred to Lowenstein’s opinion given his expertise in the industry. (via: DailyStar).

In a press release quoting Lowenstein, they say the ex-employee from Rockstar San Diego doesn’t expect the next big open wold extravaganza before the holidays of 2021. And that’s if all the (Rock)stars align.

“As a former Rockstar employee, Darion noted that the Houser brothers place all their emphasis on game quality rather than hitting a deadline,”

“His absolute best-case-scenario for a game release is Holiday 2021, though he does not expect an announcement / trailer anytime soon.

“We’ve seen online rumors and have heard client speculation that a trailer could drop as early as next month, but Darion’s take is that investors / gamers will have to wait longer.”

Lowenstein worked as a producer for Rockstar San Diego from 2002 through 2006. He produced multiple games but hasn’t worked on any Grand Theft Auto-game personally. He may still have contacts within the company but it is almost certain that he never even heard the term ‘GTA 6’ during his time with the company. Darion Lowenstein is simply an expert in the area of game development offering his opinion on when he thinks Rockstar will complete GTA 6 for the sake of investors listening in.

Take it with a grain of salt

Since we’ve been waiting for the next GTA for the better part of a decade, we will have to take what Lowenstein says with a grain of salt. We’ll pretend like Rockstar is polishing the game as we speak and that GTA 6 will release along with the next generation of consoles.

Though, if we’re really honest, this is the most credible piece of information we have from someone familiar with the matter. One thing is for sure though, don’t hold your breath for GTA 6 just yet. As we head through 2020, more information will hopefully develop on the next Grand Theft Auto. When that information presents itself we will be sure to update you.

Many Game Enthusiast regulars have predicted that GTA 6 will be announced by parent company Take Two before BioShock 4. Check out the results of our poll here.
