Far Cry 6 Will Feature Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito As Villain

A series of leaks show us that Giancarlo Esposito will play the antagonist in the upcoming Far Cry 6. The unannounced sequel to 2018’s Far Cry 5 was accidentally leaked by the official PlayStation Store. Ubisoft quickly reacted by publishing an official teaser themselves. This is what we know about Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6 featuring Giancarlo Esposito

A fan of the Far Cry franchise has taken to Twitter after the PlayStation Store accidentally revealed the sixth major installment in Ubisoft’s franchise. On the page, one could read a synopsis of the game. Additionally, the supposed cover art (header image) features a familiar face: actor Giancarlo Esposito. Most of us will know him for his role as Gus Fring in AMC’s Breaking Bad.

Ubisoft releases teaser

Ubisoft consequently leaned into the supposed mistakes by the PS Store. The French developer and publisher released a short teaser trailer showcasing Esposito as the Far Cry 6 villain.

Story synopsis

Furthermore, initially we only had a poorly translated version of the Catonese PlayStation Store page. Later, another Twitter user posted the English version of the accidentally published page. It gives a huge insight into how Far Cry 6 will play out. It reads:

“Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. As the dictator of Yara, Anton Castillo is intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.

FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
Play as Danny Rojas, a local Yaran, and become a guerrilla fighter to liberate the nation.

YARA TORN APART
Fight against Anton’s troops in the largest Far Cry playground to date across jungles, beaches and Esperanza the capital city of Yara.

GUERRILLA FIREPOWER
Employ makeshift weapons, vehicles and Amigos, the new Fangs for hire to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground.”

From the synopsis, we know that Esposito will play a villain called Anton Castillo. Like in many games in the Far Cry franchise, you are part of some sort of resistance. As guerrilla fighter Danny Rojas, you will try to liberate the country of Yara from Castillo’s reign. That means laying waste to the oppressors’ outposts and subsequently retaking the country from it’s tyrant.

Return of Vaas?

On the poster, Castillo stands behind his son Diego. Some fans have speculated that Diego is actually a young Vaas, the iconic villain from Far Cry 3. Notice the scar on Diego’s right eyebrow. It looks similar to Vaas’ but only in select pictures.

Most notably, Vaas-actor Michael Mando has teased the return of the beloved antagonist. On the other hand, other key facial features like the nose and eyes look nothing alike. Could Far Cry 6 be a prequel to one of the most celebrated games in the franchise or is the scar a red herring and was Mando just trolling?

Expect more at UbiForward

Based on the Tweet by the official Ubisoft Far Cry account, we don’t have to wait long for additional information. On Sunday July 12th the company will host UbiForward. This reveal event will officially announce Far Car 6, showcase Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and dive into the new battle royale Hyper Scape.

Although not officially confirmed by Ubisoft, we also suspect a new release date for the recently postponed Watch Dogs sequel. I mean, you’re not giving away a free copy of Watch Dogs 2 if you’re not announcing a new release date, right? Or are they buying themselves more time? In either case, we’ll know this weekend.
