Activision has officially announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. A brand new game to the franchise. The Crash Bandicoot series has been a cult classic since its original release in 1996. The series has been remastered recently (The N. Sane Trilogy) and has seen multiple adaptations to other game types such as racing games (Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled).
The latest edition of the classic platformer, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, is the first release that directly ties into the storyline of the original games in over 10 years. Activision announced the game with a brand new trailer during a Summer Game Fest live stream.
What’s It About?
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is set some time after the original trilogy ended. Dr. N. Tropy, Uka Uka, and Neo Cortex who is also a playable character at some point in the game, are banished to a distant planet. They’ve finally found a way to break out and in doing so, turned a huge hole into the universe. So it’s up to the Bandicoots to restore order by finding the four “Quantam Masks”. Players can also play as CoCo, Crash’s little sister and of course Crash Bandicoot himself.
From the trailer it does seem that the classic playstyle from the original games is still prevalent. Paul Yan from Toy’s for Bob, the developer behind Crash Bandicoot 4 said this: “What we heard was that people have found that style of gameplay really refreshing to return to. So we wanted to key off of that,”. It seems that the game itself is going to be fairly similar to the originals. Yan did say “The challenges that you interact with are a little more sparse and spread out, which encourages exploration…”. So it seems like there may be more to the level design than just a simple platform layout.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is set to release on October 2nd 2020 and will be available for PS4 and Xbox One.
